Explore the vineyards and enjoy a stop at the 12th century Chateau de Rochepot. Debonair, rustic and just plain fun, its old fashioned charm is a hit with every generation. The history of the Château de la Rochepot dates back to the 12th century, a medieval fortress with glazed tiles, it was the home of the Pot Lords, knights of the Golden Fleece and advisers of the Dukes of Burgundy. Destroyed in the French Revolution, the wife of the President of the Republic Sadi Carnot, bought for her son in 1893, the ruins of the castle of La Rochepot, allowing him to indulge in his passion for history.
During the visit of the castle, you will discover the chapel, the room of arms, the kitchen and its sumptuous drums of brass, parts with the coloured murals, Gothic and Renaissance furniture. And oddly enough, also a Chinese chamber, which was originally a ceremonial present of the last Empress of China, Tseu-Hi, to President Carnot.
Walk around the main courtyard to discover a well that is dug 72 meters deep directly into the rock! The surroundings of the castle invite you to discover the wooded park and its outbuildings; a pedestrian path also allows you to go around the castle.
Take back the wheel and drive along the beautyiful country-side roads of the Burgundy vineyards. Far from any kind of modern technology, the vintage cars inspire “joie de vivre”, and a change of scenery as you ride along charming back roads & local villages.
At the end of the tour, you will arrive at Chateau de Meursault. Surrounded by the beautiful dry stone walls, the Clos vineyard is an 8-hectare parcel of chardonnay vines just in front of the Château that was planted in 1973. One third of its surface is situated in Meursault appellation. The wine from this vineyard has fresh and generous fruity aromas with some wooden notes and is a real ambassador of Château de Meursault . Here you will enjoy a visit & tasting followed by a picnic lunch.
