Fully-customizable 4-Day Tuscany Itinerary

In just four days you will discover Tuscany, its wines, its history, its gastronomy, countryside and wonderful hospitality.

 

Day 1: Florence and an introduction to Tuscan wines

Arrival at Florence airport

Depending upon your arrival time - take a private guided tour of the ancient city of Florence to learn about the history and art of the region.

Lunch will be at local Trattoria da Burde, where sommelier and wine blogger Andrea Gori will talk you through the wines of the region over a traditional Tuscan lunch.

Transfer to your accommodation for a 2-night stay.

Hotel Borgo San Felice in Chianti is the perfect place to start your Tuscan adventure. This restored medieval hamlet, houses a fabulous Relais & Châteaux hotel and the San Felice winery. Here, you will discover wines from Montalcino, Chianti and Maremma including one of the first Super Tuscan wines ever made: the Vigorello.

After checking into one of the 34 rooms and 20 suites at this unique 5-star hotel, a wine educator will meet you to guide you through the Borgo of San Felice. You will learn about the history of the ancient hamlet before discovering the vineyards and the aging cellar. After a tutored tasting of their signature wines, you will enjoy a wine pairing dinner at Poggio Rosso, the gourmet restaurant of the hotel.

Day 2: A day of culture and relaxation in the heart of Tuscany

Discover the historic town of Siena with a local guide. The hill top city of Siena, now a UNESCO Heritage site, is famous for its art, gastronomy, museums and the bi-annual Palio horse race through the city streets. You will have time for some shopping and lunch in a local restaurant.

After lunch, return to your hotel to spend time in the village, relax by the pool or at the wellness centre inside the old olive mill of San Felice. You can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape with a quiet walk through the beautiful vineyards or for the more active, a cross-country run or bike ride down the cycling paths.

Dinner tonight will be in the relaxed Osteria del Grigio, offering a dining experience true to the Tuscan spirit of family and tradition.

Day 3: Discover Montalcino and Montepulciano

A private transfer will take you to Col d’Orcia, the historical winery of Montalcino and its world-class Brunello.  A private guided tour of the estate, its vineyard, the wine-making and ageing cellars will allow you to understand the land, the tradition and the techniques, which have made the Brunello di Montalcino a unique wine. Following a wine tasting of the most famous wines produced by Col d’Orcia, the winery will host you for lunch prepared with the seasonal organic ingredients from the farm.

Transfer to Montepulciano.

You will have some free time to discover this lovely medieval and Renaissance hill town, with either a history tour or just to browse the wine, arts and crafts shops.

Transfer to Lupaia, your home for the second half of your stay.

Lupaia is a tranquil country estate that dates back to 1622. Nestled deep in the Tuscan countryside, its unique 11 rooms and suites spread over 5 ancient farmhouse buildings, with enchanting views of the countryside, gardens, medieval villages, vineyards and olive groves. The owners have created an intimate and romantic hideaway. The experience is like staying at a friend's house.

Once checked in, you will be served welcome homemade Negronis in a secret pergola at sunset with panoramic vistas of Montepulciano. Diner tonight will be served in the open kitchen serving traditional Tuscan dishes and classic Italian favourites.

Day 4: Tuscany - the old and the new - a day of contrasts.

A change in style today, a private transfer will take you to the super modern winery of Icario. Icario is a perfect blend of quality wines, modern art & design, hospitality and stunning landscapes. As well as the wines and winery, you will discover a unique modern art collection housed in architecture that showcases the famous Italian style.

After a visit and tasting you will experience a Wine Tasting Lunch on the lounge terrace (weather permitting) with its wonderful views across the vineyards.

Return to Lupaia with time for a dip in the infinity pool overlooking the fields and the village of Montefollonico before changing for dinner.

Your final dinner on this Tuscan experience will be at the La Sala dei Grappoli, the gourmet restaurant at the heart of the Castello Banfi wine estate.

Banfi wines are one of the famous names of Tuscany and the Castello is the perfect showcase for them. Walk through the manicured gardens of the castle to discover a tasting menu designed to reveal the rich flavours of the region expertly paired with the wines from the Banfi vineyard.

Return to your hotel.

Day 5: Departure

After a leisurely breakfast, a private transfer will be arranged to take you back to Florence airport.
