Often what fascinates us most is what our eyes cannot see... Along the XV century's monumental way, the historic center of Montepulciano reveals its secrets showing a treasure which is not seen, but there it is: the Underground City. Under the noble Tarugi, Avignonesi, Del Pecora and Batignani palaces relive the evocative gothic, renaissance atmosphere, with passages, fresh burrows, hidden crypts and descents made of stone stairs. In many wineries that make up the path to the underground city you will discover oak barrels of various sizes, small funtains, two authentic Etruscan tombs, the cells where Ghibellini fugitivies found refuge, workshops and ancient wells... Dipped in the continuous flow of time the barrels guard the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Vin Santo DOC, which here complete the delicate process of aging.
