Welcome to Porto

Portugal's northern capital and second-largest city with rich traditions and a UNESCO World Heritage city center.

Located along the Douro river estuary in Northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centers, and its historical core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean.

One of Portugal's internationally famous exports, port wine, is named after Porto, since the metropolitan area, and in particular, the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, were responsible for the packaging, transport and export of the fortified wine. In 2014 and 2017, Porto was elected "Best European Destination" by the Best European Destinations Agency.  Among the architectural highlights of the city, Porto Cathedral is the oldest surviving structure, together with the small romanesque Church of Cedofeita, the gothic Igreja de São Francisco (Church of Saint Francis), the remnants of the city walls and a few 15th-century houses.

Historic Porto: Food & Wine Private Day Tour

On your private tour, you will experience Porto's top highlights with a professional English-speaking driver/guide.

Start the walking tour part directly from your hotel: amble leisurely along the ancient streets and medieval lanes to visit some of the most important monuments of Porto, such as the São Bento Station, a neoclassic jewel, and the impressive Clérigos Church. In the bustling and colorful markets and food shops, and the traditional, highly unique cafes, you will discover the authentic heart of Porto in its people. You will enjoy the stops we have arranged so that you can relax as you taste some Portuguese delicacies in typical Porto shops such as cheeses, bread, cured sausages, olives and more.

Lunch can be at one of Porto's wine cellars, Graham's, followed by a tasting of Port wines from this famous producer; or you can try the "world's best fish" and fresh seafood from the Portuguese coast that is shipped around the world to fine restaurants, from New York to Japan!

Finally, end your day relaxing on a "Rabelo" boat replica passing the 6 bridges of Porto and going to the point where the Douro River meets the Atlantic ocean.
