Fully-customizable 4-day Northern Spain Gastronomic Itinerary

Lovers of intense flavors must visit the regions of northern Spain. From the most innovative recipes of the restaurants of San Sebastian to the caves where some of the most famous cheeses of Asturias are cured, there is a universe of flavors and landscapes to discover. The Riojan wines, the Basque Txakoli, the best fresh fish from the northern Spanish coast, the ox steak served with apple cider, the best vegetables from La Rioja and the best meats and legumes of Asturias are part of this great gastronomic experience.

During centuries, some villages of the northern Spain have been isolated because they are located in mountainous regions. However, the beauty that surrounds these regions together with the incomparable flavors that can be found there, make this area a great paradise for lovers of good cuisine and good wines.

In this tour, you will enjoy each of the local flavors in the exact place where they must to be enjoyed. The best turbot and Txakoli in Getaria, the best wines of Rioja, the apple cider, ox steak and cheese in Asturias. Two nights in each region to enjoy this fabulous experience focused on wine, food, and nature.

In just 4 days you can discover a great variety of flavors that are part of the gastronomy of the northern coast of Spain.

Day 1: San Sebastian

Depart from San Sebastian, stop at the sailors’ village of Getaria to enjoy freshly-caught fish and meet a family that produces Txakoli -a very fresh white wine made with a local variety called Hondarribi that only grows in this part of Basque Country.

  • Enjoy the beautiful coast of San Sebastian
  • Visit Getaria - a little sailors’ village- to indulge in freshly-caught fish and taste locally-produced Txakoli wine
  • Taste local cider and ox steak in a traditional restaurant

Day 2: Rioja

The tour continues to Rioja, Spain’s most popular wine region. It’s time to relax and discover great wines. Some of them are still produced in underground cellars built in the XVI century; others in big facilities with innovative and modern technology, and others in centenary wineries founded when French producers arrived in Rioja at the end of the XIX century. Discover these different methods to elaborate the famous wine of Rioja.

  • Learn the different elaboration methods of Rioja wines and taste them at superb local wineries

Day 3: Asturias

The landscape will change en route to Asturias. High, green mountains rest on the cliffs that will accompany us along the coast of Cantabria. It’s time to visit the medieval village of Santillana del Mar, probably the best place to enjoy the famous Cocido Montañés, in an old palace located in the center of the village. After replenishing forces, we will arrive in Asturias, where a fabulous surprise awaits: the secrets of local cheese cured in caves. One of the producers will reveal you those secrets.
