Bodegas Baigorri is located in the town of Samaniego, nestled at the foot of the Cantabrian Mountains. A glass box, perfectly integrated into its surroundings, emerges from a privileged location in Rioja Alavesa.
A winery designed and built by Basque architect Iñaki Aspiazu, who tailored the building to the unique way our wines are made. Gravity is the main protagonist; right from the selection tables to the bottling line, through the winery’s six underground levels, all phases of production are optimised, avoiding the use of mechanical methods of any kind.
The cellar of Bodegas Baigorri is fully adapted to the existing topography and to the work carried out underneath its surface. It is a wide open, completely transparent space, where cleanliness and order impress the visitor.
A space that shows in full view and in an instructive manner the winemaking process event at harvest time.
THE VIEWING AREA
The 400m2 glass box allows our visitors to contemplate the surrounding spectacular scenery of Samaniego, giving them a genuine sense of calm before descending into the seven levels which make up the production area of the winery.
THE GRAVITY WALK THROUGH THE CELLAR
The only way that leads to the cellar is to follow the same path grapes would do during harvest time. Our ramps will drive you along our six underground floors until you arrive to our stunning barrel cellar. This will be the prelude to an amazing gastronomic experience in our Restaurant.
Located in the sixth underground floor, it is an excellent place to relax with views over our vineyards and our red wine cellar. Our Executive Chef has designed an exclusive Tasting Menu based on seasonal local products paired with some of our most emblematic wines.
For the last forty years, my career has taken me to four continents and to more than two hundred and fifty different wine estates around the world. I have visited exceptional vineyards and tasted extraordinary wines everywhere I have been.
