Bot River

Botrivier is a small town situated in the Overberg region of the Western Cape in South Africa. This distinct village is 100 km away from Cape Town and it takes its name from the Bot River on the west bank of which it is situated.

On this unique wine tour through the Bot River region, you will visit a beautiful winery:

Beaumont is a charming family-run farm and winery situated in the quaint Overberg village of Bot River. The farm, home to the region’s oldest wine cellar, was originally established in the 1700’s by the Dutch East India Company. In the 1940’s the wine business started but wine production was discontinued in the late 1960’s.

After generations of farming and partnering with nature, the land now offers some of the finest vineyards in the area. Together with a non-conformist approach to winemaking, these vines produce notably balanced, classical and artisanal wines. The farm also grows pears, almonds and olives surrounded by fynbos and abundant birdlife. Ancient, low-yielding Chenin Blanc and Pinotage vines are honoured in their wine-making process, allowing the wines to be a true reflection of the land and vineyards.

You will meet with the winemaker Sebastian Beaumont, who will walk you through the vineyards and tell you the story of the winery. Then join him for a guided wine-tasting session of the Beaumont wines- from the bottles as well as the barrels! Relax as you enjoy a delectable picnic around the water mill.
