Hermanus is situated only 90 minutes’ drive from Cape Town on the southern coast of the Western Cape along the Cape Whale Coast Route. It is a seaside village that promises to enchant visitors all year round.
Hermanus offers some of the greatest land-based opportunities for whale watching in the world (June – November), as well as having its own small but unique wine route.
Situated on the shoreline of South Africa’s Western Cape, Hermanus attracts visitors drawn by the opportunity to see majestic Southern Right Whales that arrive in these waters to give birth and care for their new-born calves between June and October each year.
Hermanus, originally called Hermanuspietersfontein before the postal service decided the name was too long, is also the only place on the planet that has its own Whale Crier – who sounds a kelp horn to announce the sighting of whales, leaving visitors with no excuse for missing this wonderful spectacle of nature.
