Château CLINET is one of the most prestigious estates of the Pomerol wine region, set amongst the finest plots of this well-known plateau. Located 40km to the east of Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Dordogne River, its gravelly clay soil makes Pomerol the terroir of the finest Merlots in the world.
For centuries, successive generations of families have taken over the ownership and management of Château Clinet, all committed to perfecting the quality of its production and stamping their own identity on this small, elegant estate. The first known traces of viticulture referring to the CLINET name, date back to the 17th century and the estate has been entirely devoted to producing wine since the end of the 18th century.
Today, Château Clinet is owned by the Laborde family who, since 1998, has placed Château Clinet on a firm footing alongside the best of the Pomerol appellation. Since 2003, the property has been managed by Ronan who, as a young businessman and marketing graduate, very quickly saw the full potential of CLINET, his instincts and expertise confirming that this château has all the makings of a great estate. Throughout their history, the quality of CLINET wines has been repeatedly rewarded with Gold Medals at the World Exhibitions in Paris (1879), Saint-Louis (1904) and Liege (1905). More recently, CLINET scored 100 Parker points for the 1989 and 2009 vintages.
Sitting on the famous Pomerol plateau and its ‘Gunz gravel’ terrace, the terroir of Château Clinet has a well-drained soil which, thanks to its stones, absorbs the heat during the day, releasing it during cooler periods and ensuring perfectly ripe grapes. This superb terroir combined with gentle farming techniques that respect the remarkable nature of the vineyard, and a state-of-the-art winery, create a wine that is both powerful and modern in its style.
Château Clinet produces a very beautiful Pomerol wine, charming and elegant with wonderful freshness, intensity and complex aromas of red fruit, blackberry and truffle. In 2009, a range of wines inspired by our Grand Vin and produced by the same team of experts was created: The Ronan collection, which embodies the pioneering spirit which is still very much alive here at CLINET.
