Visit Château d'Esclans

Château d'Esclans is located in the heart of the Var district, where most of the AOC Rosés de Provence are produced. The land was occupied 2500 years ago and was a lookout point for possible intruders who might land in the Gulf of Frejus.

The original castle - of which only the cellars remain today - was built before the 12th century. The current structure or foundations of the castle's cellars (known to be the oldest in the region) are those of the original castle which was ceded by the Count of Provence to Gerard de Villeneuve in 1201.

The chateau is known for its old Grenache vines which produce a grape that is more concentrated in aroma than the young vines.
