A new experience in France that combines the “art de vivre à la française” with the British way of playing golf is now located only a few kilometers away from the UNESCO World Heritage medieval village of Saint Emilion.
Grand Saint Emilionnais Golf Club
This « Grand Cru » of golf, only 10 km from Saint Emilion, was designed by Tom Doak, Maestro of golf design, one of the best architects in the world. The proud owner of the 102-hectare golf course (250 acres!) is the Mourgue d’Algue family, founder of the famous Trophée Lancôme in Paris.
Already ranked 7th best golf in France, this exceptional course takes place in a valley lined with hundred-year-old oaks, pines and vines. From the elevated clubhouse, the historic buildings, rolling fairways, and a superb view of the Gardegan village, create a rich rural scene.
Golf des Vigiers
A spectacular 27-hole golf course, opened in 1992 and designed by Donald Steel. Arranged in three 9-hole loops, offering three 18-hole combinations, this golf course was rated in the top ten in South West France.
If you plan a golf day here, you can also enjoy wine tastings of Bergerac and Monbazillac wines and discover the specialties of the Dordogne area.
It will be fun to play for all types of players while remaining a challenge for the best; two essential components of good golf courses.
Saint Emilion is the perfect destination to spend a few days. Anyone who visits this medieval town instantly falls for its charms. Its splendid stone buildings, its quaint cobbled streets, its monolithic church - are unique in Europe. In 1999, UNESCO placed the whole jurisdiction on the World Heritage List.
Saint Emilion seems to emerge from a sea of vines, and is home to sublime aging cellars whose mere mention excites the imagination of true wine lovers. A half-day will not be enough to discover the high-tech modern cellars or underground cellars sheltered in limestone quarries and take part in amazing wine experiences and gourmet meals.
