Wines
King Edward VII famously said:
"One not only drinks the wine, one smells it, observes it, tastes it, sips it - and one talks about it" and
Cardinal Richeleu said:
"If God forbade drinking, why would he have made wine so good?"
Operating in the world's largest producing Sauvignon Blanc region we can only agree with these quotes. Over 75% of New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc exports originate from the Marlborough region - and we are only 30 minutes away from the closest vineyard. We have an extensive range of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc available to enjoy with food - and all our wait staff are well-trained in the different styles and are very happy to talk about them with you. However we are not just a 'Sauvignon Blanc' restaurant - we have an amazing selection of oaked and unoaked Chardonnays and aromatic wines such as the organically produced Chenin Blanc, a Blanc de Noir that is suitable for vegans, Pinot Gris, Riesling in two totally different styles,Gewurstraminer, Gruner Veltiner and Viognier.
Reds are not forgotten with New Zealand and international red wines - in particular we feature 10 different Pinot Noir from New Zealand's three Pinot Noir producing regions of Martinborough, Marlborough and Central Otago and red wines in differing styles from the same regions. Guests should not leave without tasting the Villa Maria Reserve 'Gimblett Gravels' Malbec (from Hawkes Bay) - an amazing wine when matched with wild caught venison.
Taittinger is our house champagne.
Degustation
Our 8-course degustation dinner with wine match is not to be missed. Our Executive Chef identifies the best of our fresh ingredients daily and our sommellier matches each dish with a New Zealand wine from our wine list. Each cuisine course is discussed with you as it is served and after dinner our Executive Chef will join you for a moment to reflect on the dining experience.
Awards
The Foredeck has won the New Zealand Beef and Lamb award for the last 6 consecutive years.
Dietary Requirements
