The rugged Montsant mountains of Catalonia define the Priorat both visually and viticulturally. The imposing sheer walls have shed entire layers of slate onto the soil over the millennia. The Perinet vineyards Mas Vell, Mas d’en Xes and Pendents are built on technologically advanced terraces, with a high-density plantation and crushed slate on the top layers so the plant will have to grow through mineral from the beginning. What defines Perinet is its soil, climate, diverse regions, and the sense of place. Something unique to the wine world, is a place where you pick up the grapes at very low ph level. And this is the influence of the soil and the sea. Soil, climate and the minerality of the slate give an amazing balance of acidity and sleekness.
