Exclusive Wine Experience in Jerez, Spain

Exclusive Visit of Traditional Winery

The Sherry that has become the standard-bearer in cocktails.

Theme : Visits & Tastings Duration : Full day Groups : No

Vineyards and wineries have dotted the countryside and shaped the cities of the Jerez region since its inception. White limestone hills known as albariza and wineries with vaulted, cathedral-like ceilings have filled the privileged and unique geographic triangle with colour, aromas and sensations.

Your private driver will take you on a Jerez wine tour, in the province of Cadiz, to meet the wine expert who will guide you during your visit of Bodegas Lustau.

The Bodegas Lustau winery was founded in 1896 by Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo. It was a modest beginning: José, a court clerk, cultivated the vines on his land, known as Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. In the house at the vineyard, he produced the wines he later sold to the major exporting wineries.

In the 1940s, his son-in-law, Emilio Lustau Ortega moved the winery to the old neighborhood of Santiago, in the historic quarter of Jerez de la Frontera. There, in buildings that formed part of the historic Moorish walls of the city, he slowly began to expand the business and in 1950, the company began exporting its own sherry wines.

In the 1980s, under the management of Rafael Balao, who sensed that Lustau had to be at the fore front of quality, the winery became one of the most innovative companies in Jerez: his ideas of combining tradition and innovation paved the way for identifying Lustau with quality and prestige.

Lustau’s philosophy has remained the same since its inception in 1896: the pursuit of the highest quality in order to offer the market the widest and finest range of sherry. Its commitment to combining tradition, innovation and the pursuit of higher quality wines has accompanied Lustau from its humble beginnings. Thanks to its versatility, it has become the standard-bearer in sherry cocktails: the variety of colors, aromas and flavors in the Lustau’s sherries explain its success.

In recent years, Lustau has been honoured and recognised with several awards:

- “Best Spanish Producer” in 2011 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London

- In 2012, it was the winery that won the most awards in Spain and the 7th worldwide

- Lustau’s oenologist, Manuel Lozano, has been named “Best Fortified Wines Winemaker of the Year” seven years in a row by the International Wine Challenge of London

After the winery visit and tasting, your driver will take you back to your hotel in Seville, or you can stay in Jerez and enjoy one of the most characteristic shows in Andalusia: the dancing horses. Take your VIP seats in the arena at the Royal Andalusian Academy of Equestrian Art, and watch horses and riders perform their famous “Dancing Horses” display. This is arguably the finest live dressage performance in the world!

Following the performance, we suggest a typical Andalusian tapas meal in one of Jerez’s finest tapas restaurants before returning to Sevilla.
