Activities

Margaret River & Cullen Wines

Margaret River in the South West of Western Australia is one of the most exceptional tourist destinations on earth; combining pristine white beaches, ancient jarrah forests, rolling hills of vines and five star food, wine and accommodation options. Having similar climate conditions to Bordeaux, it has built a reputation as a region that produces world-class wines.

Cullen Wines lies at the heart of the Margaret River wine growing region. In 1966, Dr. Kevin Cullen and his wife Diana experimented with trial plantings before planting their own vines in 1971 on what today is the Cullen Estate. Cullen Wines has gone on to become one of Australia’s finest and most successful boutique wineries with a stellar international reputation.

Kevin and Diana were always great advocates of minimalist intervention, and along with their youngest daughter Vanya, who was appointed Chief Winemaker in 1983 and Managing Director in 1999, they achieved A Grade Organic Certification in 2003. Vanya went on to successfully pursue A Grade Biodynamic Certification for the Cullen Vineyard in 2004 and for the adjacent Mangan Vineyard in 2008.

Visitors come from all over the world to experience Cullen hospitality. When they step inside the historic granite and timber Cellar Door and Restaurant, they know they have arrived somewhere truly special. Guests are warmly welcomed to enjoy new release tastings, or extraordinary rare back vintages at Cellar Door, and the award winning Restaurant beckons with its tables in the sunshine overlooking the lush vines in summer or the warmth of the open fire in winter. On offer is an ever changing menu of local fresh, organic and seasonal products, featuring many ingredients from our own biodynamic gardens, all designed to perfectly match our biodynamic wines.

Private tours and tastings are available, or guests may choose to stroll at their own leisurely pace through the self-guided Spiral Garden Tour, where they can see and experience the principles of biodynamics. Luxurious accommodation is within walking distance in the historic Cullen Homestead.

Bookings can also be made for private Food and Wine Flights, which allow large or small groups to enjoy a unique private dining experience and be taken through a range of exquisite dishes with matching new release or back vintage wines. Flights are hosted by a professional staff member who discusses food and wine pairing, biodynamic wine making, and all the things that makes Cullen Wines unique.
