The Estate of Cusona boasts an existence of over 1000 years, as evidenced by a parchment dated 994. The property is of the historic Strozzi Guicciardini family. It has a geographically strategic position, on the hills of San Gimignano at 300 m above sea level, easily reachable in a very short time from Florence, Siena, Pisa, at the center of the national fast roads in Tuscany.
The millenary property extends over 530 hectares, classified as of historical and artistic national interest by the Italian government, is one of the most important wine companies in the region, that has been operating on the national market and on foreign markets since the 13th century.
The production is very focused on the historical grape of the area, the so called Vernaccia di San Gimignano, praised by Dante, Michelangelo, Boccaccio. The Medici, the main opponents of the family, passed orders of barrels of Vernaccia for the court in Florence that were then also sent as a gift to the Pope in Rome.
Among the illustrious ancestors, it is worth mentioning also Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo, known as La Gioconda or Mona Lisa, immortalized in the most famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci. The princesses Natalia and Irina Strozzi, daughters of the Prince and Princess Strozzi represent the fifteenth generation of descendants.
