Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses
Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses was built to give our guests a great night's sleep in one the most beautiful places in the world.
Located 12kms north of the world renowned eco-marine town of Kaikoura, on NZ’s South Island, Hapuku Lodge shares the land with a deer stud and olive grove, nestled between the Kaikoura Seaward Mountain Range and famed Mangamaunu Bay.
A contemporary country lodge, Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses is composed of four luxury lodge suites, the Olive House suite and five luxury Tree Houses built in the canopy of a native Manuka grove.
All rooms at Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses feature beautiful, custom designed, hand crafted furniture, tailor-made beds and mattresses, European style bathrooms with heated towel rails and floors and rain drop showerheads. The Tree Houses also have large spa baths and fireplaces and the lodge suites have Japanese soaking tubs. Breathtaking views of snow capped mountains and surf washed coastline are seen from all rooms.
Eating at Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses
Our belief is that food should always be fresh, uncomplicated and flavorful. We strive to take advantage of seasonal ingredients, sourced whenever possible from local organic farmers. A full cooked breakfast and three-course dinner is included in all room rates.
The area in which the Lodge is located was designated on the first European maps of the district as “Kai Whare”, the Maori term for “house of food”. Today the dining room at the Lodge, with its relaxed and warm atmosphere, is at the heart of the Hapuku Lodge experience.
Here you can watch the food being prepared and chat with our chefs, including the Lodge’s Executive Chef, Fiona Read, as they prepare your meal. You will realize during your stay that we, and particularly Fiona, have a passion for food - for the producing of it, for the preparation and cooking of it and for presenting it. Fiona manages all matters relating to the food we serve, from the Lodge’s gardens, in which we grow a good deal of the vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen, our free range chickens, the gathering of provisions from local gardeners and producers, sourcing the best meat and fish either directly from the farm or fisherman, the running of the kitchen, the creation of the daily menu and the service. Which is why our guests are prone to say that we have some of the best food in the country. Eating with us will, we believe, enhance and deepen your appreciation of what New Zealand has to offer.

About Kaikoura
Kaikoura, with its unparalleled marine life and spectacular landscapes, is one of the world’s premier eco-marine tourism destinations. Indeed, New Zealand Geographic has called Kaikoura “A maritime Serengeti” and “a Sea World without walls”. As a consequence, there is a lot to see and do, both on land and at sea.
