ITINERARY
Day 1: Santa Cruz
A relatively early departure from Santiago (7.30am) will be required today. We drive two hours South following the Pan-American road to San Fernando and from there we head towards the coast to the small town of Santa Cruz, center of the wine production of Colchagua Valley. From the Colonial Square we cycle along back roads through vineyards and rolling hills to Montgrass winery, where we enjoy their wines and a picnic lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax at the wine lodge.
Cycling: easy, on flat and soft rolling hills. 1.5 hrs
Day 2: Clos Apalta
After breakfast, a quick scenic drive and we are on our bikes to start cycling among vineyards, towards the small town of Peralillo. We get a sense of this tranquile, typical rural village, as we make a quick stop at the local bakery for coffee and pastries.
A short van ride takes us to Clos Apalta winery, which got world recognition when in 2008, Wine Spectator magazine chose Clos Apalta 2005 vintage, as the Number 1 wine of the world -Clos Apalta is the only Chilean/Latin American wine that has ever received this award. More recently, it has been highlighted as a perfect wine by world-renowned journalist and wine critic James Suckling, who gave 100 points to the 2014 vintage. From this time, Clos Apalta never stopped to surprise the wine world with, year after year, fantastic vintages
Later, after having tasted the heaven of Apalta's wines, enjoy some time on your own for lunch in town or opt for some of our suggestions, as the Osobuco alla Birra or other delicious recipes at Vino Bello Restaurant.
Cycling: 22 miles. Terrain: mostly flat on paved and dirt roads.
Day 3: Casa Silva Winery -return to Santiago
Morning relaxed start from our wine lodge in Colchagua.
Just passing the town of San Fernando we find Casa Silva, without doubt one of the most traditional wineries in the Colchagua Valley, with its colonial architecture and old cellars. A 100% family-owned winery, which produces ouststanding Reserve / Grand Reserve wines.
We enjoy lunch at its restaurant located in the Polo, Rodeo & Riding Club House, with spectacular views of the Andes Mountain. The menu of flavorful country-style Chilean cuisine meticulously planned by celebrated chef Soledad Correa.
Afternoon transfer back to centric Santiago / Santiago Airport.
