Activities

A unique vineyard

One of the First Great Classified Growth in the imperial classification of 1855, Château Guiraud is the oldest property of Sauternes (dating from the 15th century), one of the largest (with over 100 hectares of vines), and the only one whose vines are entirely situated within the Sauternes communal limits.

A natural wine

Château Guiraud is the only 1855 First Growth to be certified for Organic Agriculture (in 2011), and is the only château committed to a truly global rethinking of its vineyard operations. It is renowned for its natural approach to noble rot thanks to measures including prohibition of herbicides and chemical insecticides, the installation of « insect hotels », the planting of 6km of hedgerows, the genetic diversity of its vines, a conservatory gathering some 100 vine varieties, and a water treatment station which functions through natural filtration by reeds.

The wines of Château Guiraud are marked by their authenticity, freshness, mineral character and exceptional depth.

The long avenue of plane trees that leads to Château Guiraud means you leave the stress of daily life behind and enter another world. Gradually, as you progress through the vaulted tunnel created by the trees, calm descends, and you begin to slow down to fully appreciate the setting: the trees, the vines alongside and the wildflowers.

The buildings are then revealed at the end of the road: you have arrived at Château Guiraud, a 1855 Sauternes Premier Cru Classé. And yet you are in one of those magical places in Bordeaux, where, over the centuries, the combination of nature and human invention has created a truly exceptional vineyard. It seems as if the property is cut off from the world, as it is surrounded by vines and the edge of the forest. You have to approach the winery to take in the view of the open landscape. From there, you can see the steeple in the village of Sauternes below.

People who come to Château Guiraud always leave with a special memory.
