Guided tour of the city of Chinon

With its medieval streets, Chinon has remained an outdoor museum of architecture and history. Discover the half-timbered houses and the Renaissance town houses built for the King’s financers or ministers. With its fortress built by Henry II Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart, Chinon is the town where Joan of Arc met King Charles VII in 1429.

Wine tasting at a local winery

Established in 1921, this House has become a great name for Chinon over the years. The Chinon region has all the qualities of the greatest soils. Its semi-oceanic climate is exceptionaly mild and benefits from long sunny periods. This ancient land has a unique terroir that grows the Cabernet Franc varietal to perfection.

Their wines have earned them great respect -they are found in leading restaurants across France, and further afield too! As we would expect from such a dedicated team, all their wines are uniformly superb (as proven by their numerous awards) strong and well-built.

Guided tour and wine tasting lunch at Château du Rivau

A unique blend of medieval and Renaissance architecture, Château du Rivau is a beautifully-restored French castle set in the heart of Touraine. Although one of the lesser-known Loire valley castles, this French château seems to come straight out of a fairy tale, thanks to its imposing keep, protective drawbridge and glorious gardens. One can still discern its original square layout, typical of a 13th century fortified French castle. You will enjoy lunch with local and fresh products directly from the garden, paired with wines of the domain!

Wine tasting at a local domain near Chinon

In Cravant les Côteaux, one of the most famous villages for Chinon wines, enjoy a tour and tasting in this exceptionnal cellar of organic wines, on the right bank of the river Vienne. Before the tasting, visit the natural limestone cellar that the host has been digging by himself for 20 years now. The appellation Chinon produces red and rosé wines from the grape variety cabernet franc. According to the age of the vine, the soil (limestone, pebbles, clay, sand), the sun and wind exposition and the different wine-making techniques, the winemaker will elaborate a wide range of wines from the same grape variety, producing thirst quenchers or rich and complex red wines.

Transfer back to the Tours or Saint Pierre des Corps train stations, or your hotel (located in the Loire Valley).
