Unveil the varietal's subtleties and nuances

Pinot Noir is a favorite of sommeliers and wine lovers alike. Winemakers try to tame this temperamental cépage, but it always obeys Mother Earth – which is why each terroir and each vintage reveals a different expression in the glass.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The provenance of Pinot Noir dates back more than a millennia when it became the first grape variety to be officially recognized, and named, in Beaune. On this one-of-a-kind experience, you will learn the origin and history of this noble grape while walking among its Burgundian birthplace, where the world’s finest expression of Pinot Noir is found. The impetuous nature of Pinot Noir requires to understand the peculiarities of each vintage, as well as what happens in the vineyard and the winery, for the grape is the perfect synthesis of nature and winemaker.

Our sommelier will guide you through a year in the life of the vines: from pruning, hibernation and bud break to the harvest. You will learn how these delectable fruits become delicate wines through maceration, fermentation, aging and blending – methods which combine to create our signature winemaking process. The real education, of course, will be for your tastebuds when they experience, side by side, the Burgundy Pinot Noirs from different terroirs and different vintages from the same terroir. Prepare to be amazed.

WHAT YOU WILL TASTE

The highlight of the Pinot Noir Experience takes place in one of our private tasting rooms. Four Burgundy Pinot Noir appellations from the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, all vinified at Château de Pommard, will be savored before the main event: a vertical tasting of four vintages of our Clos Marey-Monge Monopole. A moment to savor.

Tasting List:

  • 2 Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir
  • 2 Côte de Beaune Pinot Noir
  • Clos Marey-Monge, Monopole 2011
  • Clos Marey-Monge, Monopole 2012
  • Clos Marey-Monge, Monopole 2013
  • Clos Marey-Monge, Monopole 2014
