Philipponnat is a champagne house with deep and historic family roots. Charles Philipponnat, from the family’s 16th generation, is the House’s current chairman.
True to their legacy of expertise and a constant commitment to the pursuit of excellence, Philipponnat does not hesitate to use techniques that break away from habitual practices to produce their wines. The House concentrates on quality-focused production, in small quantities, of highly recognisable wines with an individual style which does not yield to trends. Philipponnat maintains a loyal relationship with its opinion leaders. Over the years these opinion leaders have become stalwarts of each of the House’s cuvées.
Today, during a visit to the House, you can discover the solera process, a long-standing tradition of Philipponnat; as well as learn about non-vintage blends and how this Maison was the first Champagne house to indicate the main year used in these blends, and the dosage and disgorgement date on back labels.
Philipponnat family
The Philipponnat family has been leaving its mark on the soil of the Champagne region for almost five centuries, with generations of men and women who have cultivated the land at Ay, since 1522.
The family’s ancestors were winegrowers and merchants, suppliers to the court of Louis XIV, magistrates and Royal Mayors of Ay. Today, Charles Philipponnat presides over the House as the custodian of a centuries-old philosophy. As a member of the family's sixteenth generation, he ensures their wines continue to honor the House’s values: individuality, excellence, generosity and humility.
